Being a Montessori Preschool in Virginia, we know how picky kids can get with their food. This may be normal for children their age, but with the COVID-19 virus still around, eating healthily every single day is now non-negotiable.
While there are still no vaccines available to combat this disease, keeping the immune system strong and alert is one of the ways to prevent yourself and your loved ones from getting infected.
We want everyone to be safe from the virus – whether they go to our Manassas Park daycare or not. Here are some tips on how to convince your “mini-me” to eat healthily:
Focus on the quality of the food you’re providing.
As much as possible, keep your ingredients organic or as close to its natural form as possible. Reduce packaged and processed food.
Disguise the taste of healthier foods.
Young or old, we all have a least favorite vegetable – and kids typically despise greens. Be a bit more creative with how you’re sneaking the “good stuff” into their meals.
Try a fruit and leafy greens smoothie, or mix some carrots into mashed potatoes.
Make healthy snacks more available.
Instead of stocking up on their favorite candy bars, invest in getting fruits, nuts, and juices. A chocolate bar here and there won’t hurt, but don’t make it too accessible.
Be a role model.
The teachers in our Montessori School in Manassas Park, Virginia, preach the importance of eating healthily, but your child is most likely to follow your example. So eat your greens!
These tips can even be recycled for when Maple Lawn Montessori of Manassas Park is ready to open their doors again. Just think about the healthy snacks you’ll be able to prepare your kids for school.
